Women's watches 'becoming more ornate'

First published: 28-02-2012

Watches for women could be taking on increasingly ornate styles as the brands showing at the current Baselworld exhibition are going for glamorous looks with their newest ranges.

Many of the companies showcasing their products seem to be taking their cue from the past, with a chic 1920s influence being seen on the latest creations to be released by Links of London and Chanel.

But some companies are going for a far more ostentatious style, with the amazing Serpenti design from Bulgari being shaped like a coiled snake which wraps around the wrist of the wearer, with the face of the watch set into the snake's head.

Made from 18 carat pink gold and set with a number of sparkling diamonds, the watch is a stunning example of how creative designers can be when producing their timepieces.

The design of the Bulgari watch is reminiscent of a new timepiece from Breil, which also crafted a ladies timepiece that fits to the arm by being wrapped around it.
