Westlife emphasise coolness of watches through sarcastic defensiveness

First published: 29-12-2009

Westlife are back on the scene, though one recent interview had the band defending their cool factor after an unintentionally acerbic question had the singers joking around with their interviewer.

The Daily Telegraph's Judith Woods was talking to the boys about their comeback album and the general ups and downs of their 11-year career, which has seen them gain countless number ones and plenty of adoring fans.

However, Ms Woods asked them why they were not considered cool - something that Westlife sarcastically mocked her for, mentioning anything from motors to timepieces.

Shane Filan piped up: "[I've got] a big, fat house, way, way bigger than anything Bob Geldof's got. Two fat houses, in fact. And loads of cars and watches."

Pointing at his tattooed calf, Kian Egan demanded: ""Look, this is Buddha! Is that cool enough for you? Is it?"

Westlife's newest album, Where We Are, came out at the end of November.
