Wenger watches - Wenger produces "ultimate outdoor gift"

First published: 27-07-2009

The Genuine Swiss Army Knife maker Wenger, which is also well-known for its range of watches, has created the "ultimate outdoor gift", according to a new report.

Henry Miller of the Statesman Journal explained the strange approach adopted by the Wenger Giant Knife, which looks like a normal Swiss offering from the side.

However, with the benefit of perspective, it suddenly becomes eight and three-quarter inches long and weighs a whopping two pounds.

This is likely due to the fact that Wenger has fitted the "portable" knife with no less than 87 separate implements, which offer up to 141 functions, Mr Miller continues.

Aside from the "de riguer" standards of the usual Swiss Army knife, including the blade, scissors and can opener, the tool also has a shoe spike wrench for golfers, a hook disgorger for fishermen and a 12/20 gauge choke-tube tool for hunting enthusiasts.

In a trademark impartial move, the Swiss government announced in 1908 that it would buy half of its Swiss Army knives from Wenger and the other half from Victorinox - a rival it acquired in 2005.
