Watches are important accessories, says expert

Watches are crucial for anyone who wants to be right on trend, an expert has suggested.

Anna Nightingale, fashion blogger and student reporter for Fashionista, said they are about more than just telling the time.

"They are an important accessory and there are loads of different ways you can use them to complement different outfits," she continued.

Ms Nightingale emphasised that watches should be treated much the same as any other fashion accessory and that wearers should take whatever else they are wearing into account.

In recent weeks, Mintel published research showing that fashion spending remained buoyant even in the face of the recession.

It found that nearly half (12.7 million) of women in the UK spent the same or more on their clothes in 2009.

Buyers of designer wear were the consumers most likely to have spent more on clothes last year, with nearly two in ten of them spending more in 2009 than previously.
