Van Cleef & Arpels reveals original watch design

Van Cleef & Arpels has continued its revealing of unique watches with the introduction of the Poetic Complication Five weeks in a balloon timepiece.

Inspired by the famous Jules Verne novel Les Voyages Extraordinaires, the model offers a dial decorated in champleve enamel and mother-of-pearl elements, Watch Luxus reported.

However, it is the design of reading the time which particularly stands out to consumers, with a large hot air balloon dominating where the 12 o'clock location usually sits.

Reading the current hour comes down the left-hand side of the timepiece via a bird in flight, while minutes flow across the right-hand side and is determined through the anchor of the balloon.

The Five weeks in a balloon design comes soon after Van Cleef & Arpels were honoured with an award at the Tenth Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve, Professional Jeweller reported.

Coming in the Poetic Complications collection as well, the Le Pont des Amoureux timepiece tells the time via a silhouette of a man and a woman, who meet in the centre of the dial at midnight.
