Van Cleef & Arpels looks to space for new watch design

First published: 28-06-2011

Watch lovers who are enthusiastic about space travel may want to check out a new Van Cleef & Arpels timepiece that has a decoration of the Milky Way.

Entitled From the Earth to the Moon, the ticker shows off the earth at the six o'clock position and other stars and planets across the rest of the dial.

Presented as Van Cleef & Arpels' Only Watch 2011 entry, the timepiece is designed with elements of meteorite stone, jade, agate and champleve enamel.

Time is read uniquely too, with a space ship down the right-hand side of the dial, counting up from zero to sixty to indicate the minutes.

Meanwhile, a star on the opposite side displays hours up to the twelfth digit, meaning that the time is styled into the dial's space-themed design.

This is the latest effort for the Only Watch 2011 auction to be revealed, with watchmakers Audemars Piguet, Hublot, MB&F and Corum among the many others getting involved in the event.
