Under the spotlight - Casio watches

First published: 20-09-2016

Decades before the smartwatch was created, there was Casio. The Japanese electronics company began producing watches in the 1970s, and went on to build a reputation through futuristic features like calculators, touch-screen capabilities and fitness tracking.

Though not as sophisticated as the modern-day smartwatch, Casio was putting out timepieces that could switch TV channels and track heart rate way back in the early 1990s.

It even experimented with a contactless payment facility known as Speedpass back in 2004.

Fast-forward to today and Casio is as relevant as ever, with popular G-Shock, Baby-G and Classic timepieces selling alongside stylish analogue, GPS-boasting Oceanus line.

If you're interested in getting a Casio timepiece, our rundown of some of our favourite Casio watches here will give you a better idea of the range offered by Japan's best-known watchmaker.
