The Game splashes out on designer watches for pals

January is a time for grudgingly going back to work after the festive season, starting healthy eating plans and picking up any last-minute bargains in the sales.

Unfortunately, it can often be a time for standing in returns queues, gift receipts in hand, trying to exchange unwanted or totally unsuitable presents from well-meaning friends and family.

However, we bet the buddies of rapper The Game didn't have this problem after they opened their pressies on Christmas Day.

That's because he treated each of them to designer watches, spending a total of $100,000 (£61,572), according to TMZ.

The Game did mention his plan to play Santa to the website in a recent interview, but everyone probably thought he was joking.

He wasn't though, so 12 of his homeboys found themselves the proud owners of Rolexes - and some cute little beanie hats embroidered with the words 'Roley Boyz' so they can demonstrate their BFF status to the world.

It's just like the episode of Friends where Joey buys Chandler an extravagant watch ... although he didn't like his so much.

Let's hope The Game's friends had an inkling that he was going to splash out on them, or they could have been a bit embarrassed after he unwrapped socks and assorted smellies.

It's not the first time the rich and famous have treated friends to designer watches. In fact, we were reminded of the time when Philadelphia Phillies baseball player Roy Halladay bought timepieces for his whole squad to thank them for helping him to throw his 20th perfect game.

Movingly, they were engraved with the message: "We did it together. Thanks, Roy Halladay," as well as the date of the game and the line scores.

Christmas may be over, but designer watches could be the perfect gift if you've got a friend's birthday coming up.

Luckily though, you don't have to have a celebrity budget to afford the latest styles and most impressive if you shop at Watch Shop.
