Tennis champ sports timepiece after big win

First published: 23-08-2011

A top star in the women's tennis tournament (WTA) was spotted wearing a famous watch brand after she took the main prize at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Maria Sharapova was beaming when she received the massive trophy and so was the Tag Heuer piece wrapped around her wrist.

The timepiece was none other than the label's Formula One lady steel and ceramic chronograph.

As for the competition?

Tennis fans will already know Sharapova has been struggling with injuries for the last few seasons which made her victory even sweeter.

She took the title after beating 13th seed Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in less than three hours.

Sharapova, also known as the Siberian siren, will move up the WTA rankings to fourth position – her highest rating since having shoulder surgery two years ago.

For the US Open, set to begin on August 29th, the champion will be seeded third because Belgian star Kim Clijsters had to withdraw.
