Swiss watches 'unrivalled', says Hublot boss

Everyone knows that Switzerland is to watches what Belgium is to chocolate, France is to wine and sushi is to Japan, so it is perhaps unsurprising to hear that the head of a leading Swiss watch brand agrees.

Hublot watches chairman Jean-Claude Biver is so convinced by the supremacy of Swiss watches, however, that he thinks nothing else compares.

"The Swiss watch industry has no competition," he told Reuters in a recent interview. "Nobody will buy a $10,000 watch if it's not Swiss made."

His bold statement came as he announced that Hublot was planning to open new stores across the US, where it currently only has five boutiques.

The brand's sixth outlet is due to open in Atlanta later this summer, but Mr Biver revealed that a further four could open in the next couple of years.

Last week, Hublot threw a huge party in celebration of its brand ambassador Diego Maradonna.
