Luxury Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil has decided to open a new store in Dubai, just weeks after a successful Christie's watch auction in the emirate.

The watchmaker has opened its new boutique in the Gold Souk of the Dubai Mall, with president of the firm Oliver Bernheim flying over for the official opening.

Speaking at the ceremony, Thomas Dotzek, senior general manager of Al Futtaim Watches and Jewellery, said: "The new timepiece 'nabucco rivoluzione' complements the nabucco collection perfectly.

"Its nocturnal colouring provides a brooding presence while the craftsmanship and design reflect a powerful sense of elegant masculinity intrinsically linked throughout the collection."

The recent Christie's auction in Dubai saw 98.2 per cent of lots sold by auction, bettering the recent Geneva watch auction by the auctioneer, which saw 93.15 per cent of lots sold at the event.

Aurel Bacs and Tim Bourne, international co-heads of Christie's watch department admitted after the event that they are optimistic about future watch auctions, claiming they were "looking forward" to upcoming events.
