Swiss watches 'expected to have a successful year'

Watches could be set to become one of the most sought after items over the next year, with some of the biggest manufacturers predicting a large increase in sales during 2012.

Swiss manufacturers in particular are expecting there to be a big rise in sales, as the Asian markets increasingly demand these products.

Commenting ahead of the release of official figures by the Swiss Watch Industry Federation, president of the group Jean-Daniel Pasche said he anticipates there to be single digit growth over the coming 12 months, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Although it is likely to be less than during last year, the growth still represents a big increase for the industry.

"Asia will remain the main driver, of course. Not just China, but also South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries," Mr Pasche told the newspaper.

It is not just Swiss companies that are seeing their sales rise, as Burberry also recently stated watches had helped them to see high sales figures over the past 12 months.
