Steve McQueen's famous watch will be the centre of attention as it comes under the hammer today.

As part of the Important Collectors' Wristwatches Pocket Watch & Clocks Sale being held at Antiquorum's US headquarters on Madison Avenue, the world-famous TAG Heuer Monaco is expected to reach a value of $10,000 to $20,000 (£7,140 - £14,280).

Alongside the well-known square timepiece, a number of other prolific watches will be sold to the highest bidder.

These include Frank Sinatra's Gruen watch and gold chain necklace and fellow Rat Packer Sammy Davis Jr's Cartier Pasha, which are believed to sell at a similar price to the movie star's item.

A 14k gold Movado watch sold by Tiffany & Co given to former president Franklin D Roosevelt on his 63rd and final birthday is the most famous watch available and is expected to go for over $50,000 (£35,680).

The legacy of Steve McQueen lives on through a number of leading brands in the world, including Ford - who produced the limited edition Bullitt Mustang - and JH Design, which makes tailored leather jackets.
