Sports watches have a 'great range of functions'

First published: 29-06-2009

Many people are turning to sports watches to provide them with the functionality they desire as active individuals, with Timex watches being particularly popular, it has been said.

Ryan McNeil, a fitness expert writing for the Examiner, explained that watches now display such things as average running speed, best pace, total distance travelled, location, heart rate and compass heading, though many more are available.

However, many are getting much cleverer with their measurements, with cadence - the number of steps being taken in a minute - being regularly matched with GPS sensors, using satellite technology to help a person figure out their co-ordinates.

People who love their gadgets may be interested in linking their Timex watch with a PC to get accurate data regarding their performance, with special software or downloads helping a person get to grips with their fitness.

Many people who are considering using their watch in a major running event may want to head over to the Isle of Man on August 9th, with the island presenting an opportunity for fitness fans in its annual marathon.
