'Smart watches' the next big thing

First published: 04-08-2011

Laptops, PCs, mobile phones, tablets - they all give us access to our favourite applications, whether it be a weather email alert or quick look on Facebook while we're meant to be working.

Now, however, all that technology could be wrapped around your wrist in the development of a new platform suitable for what is being branded the smart watch.

WIMM Labs is due to release its Android-powered platform for wearable computing, giving people access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS technology all on the flick of wrist.

It also features a 1.4 inch display, full-colour touch screen and built-in sensors for accurate motion tracking web-based management.

WIMM labs chief executive officer, Dave Mooring, said: "There's an increasing demand for digital experiences that are faster, easier and more relevant.

"We've created an incredibly powerful, yet small, modular device that can be embedded into a wide variety of consumer products."

Timepieces just got even more impressive.
