Seiko launches spacewalk watch in India

Japanese watch company Seiko has announced the launch of its Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk for the first time in India at the recent Samay Bharti 2010 event in Mumbai, it has been reported.

It was revealed this week that the specialised offering was on display with a number of other watches from the brand, including the Seiko Electronic Ink watch and the world's first quartz timepiece, the Seiko Quartz Astron.

The Spring Drive Spacewalk watch is the first one to be designed specifically for a spacewalk and was worn by Richard Garriott, the world-famous video game designer, on his space mission in 2008.

Tetsuji Ishimaru, the managing director of Seiko Watch India, said that from its creation in 1881, Seiko watches have demonstrated revolutions in horology and is supported by its craftsmanship and technology.

He continued: "The watches displayed a testament to the brand's superior technology, and augments our journey through time, which stands on the pillars of innovation and refinement."

In last month's United Brands 2009 Watch and Jewelry List, major brands were detailed in each corner of the market, with the entry-level category this year being dominated by Seiko watches.
