Sales of gold watches on the increase

First published: 25-10-2011

The sales of gold watches are on the increase in India as shoppers pick up gifts for the forthcoming Diwali festival.

Sales of jewellery, electronic goods and coins have been performing well this year, the Times of India reported.

Earrings were particularly popular with shoppers, as people looked for more modern, lightweight products rather than heavier, antiquated designs.

Diamond rings have also seen a surge in the number of consumers looking to purchase them, with one store reporting sales of 200 items in one day.

Gold watches were also very much in demand, with around 80 timepieces from a high-end collection being sold in one day on Monday October 25th 2011.

"There were many customers even for watches that cost Rs 50,000 each," said Abhishek from Titan watches.

This increase in demand could come as watches were said to be coming back into fashion again by John Biggs, editor of Wristwatchreview.com.
