Rolex's new Explorer II detailed

First published: 29-03-2011

The design elements of the new Rolex Explorer II timepiece has been praised, fashion watch fans may be interested to hear.

A critic at Hodinkee pointed out that, firstly, the device is not a tribute to the 1655 "Freccione" Explorer II, despite each sharing an eye-catching orange hand.

Instead, the wristwatch is an update to follow on from the last Explorer II to hit the market, allowing it to become "the natural next phase of evolution for the Explorer II, with a dose of retro thrown in for good measure".

Some features of the new Explorer II include a bulky 42mm case, as well as some large hands and markers, which sit on either a white or black-toned dial.

There is a bit of practicality to this Rolex watch too, thanks to a date window appearing at the three o'clock position of the dial inside a bubble element.

Rolex has showed off the new Explorer II along with a selection of other appealing timepieces, including the Yacht-Master II and the Datejust Special Edition tickers.
