He rocked the world from the late 50s to the mid-70s before his death with such hits as Love Me Tender, Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog.

Now, however, the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, will have his watch sold stateside for a whopping $24, 000 (£14,800), The Portland Press Herald reported.

Kathy Byrne, owner of jewellery retailer Windham Jewellers, told the publication: "I think it's pretty reasonably priced."

The shop will also be selling off a host of other celebrity jewels including Cher's onyx cross and Mia Farrow's 18-carat gold box, given to her by Russian-American actor Yul Brynner, famed for his role in The Magnificent Seven.

The watch at the centre of the event however, is a 14-carat crystal encrusted Hamilton design with a black leather strap.

On August 16th 1977, Presley was discovered unconscious on his bathroom floor and was later declared dead.

His memory will undoubtedly live on through such a remarkable timepiece.
