Orange Watch Phone 'first of many' innovations

First published: 07-07-2009

Orange is set to make the world's first Touchscreen Watch Phone available to consumers from August.

The new Watch Phone - which may rival even the quirkiest Tokyo Flash watch - has been designed by LG and will be one of a number of innovative new phones set to be unveiled by the mobile operator over the next 18 months.

A Bluetooth headset accompanies the watch, which has an integrated speaker and full touch-screen interface in addition to 3G+ and video-calling capabilities.

Tom Alexander, chief executive officer at Orange UK, believes that the Watch Phone is the "must-have gadget of 2009".

He said: "We have secured some of the most original and innovative devices available.

"The Watch Phone is the first of these devices, all focused on bringing a 21st century experience to our 21st century customers."

LG's new Watch Phone is not the only advance in watch technology set to emerge this year. Last month, the Daily Mail reported that scientists in the US are developing a watch that could help to prevent elderly people from falling over.
