Online fashion shopping trend 'set to continue'

First published: 28-04-2009

The current success being enjoyed by online shopping portals, such as those selling Karen Millen watches, will be an "ongoing thing", according to Cosmopolitan.

Fashion director at the magazine Shelly Vella explained that online shopping is becoming a bigger phenomenon than high street retail.

Her comments follow the publication of the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, published on April 21st, which showed online sales were up by 19 per cent compared to March last year.

However, there were indications in the research that online sales had slowed in line with the current economic downturn.

Ms Vella explained that online shopping has been particularly popular among women.

She said: "You can try things on in the comfort of your own home ... which can be quite dangerous but it is still that novelty value.

"The other important thing is there is just so much more choice; you are not having to hang around to find out if things aren't in stock."
