Obama's watch choice shows him to be 'man of the people'

Instead of opting for more expensive offerings, Barack Obama is happy to wear a watch worth no more than £260 at some of the biggest functions of his life.

The president has been the focus of a recent piece by the Times, which discussed how the man has shunned Rolexes or Patek Philippes in favour of a Jorg Gray 6500 Chronometer, which is black with three simple on-face timers.

It isn't simply worn to the odd occasion either, with Mr Obama seen wearing it at a number of huge events including his victory speech at Grant Park, the G20 summit in London and the Washington DC Neighbourhood Inaugural Ball when dancing with his wife Michelle.

He received it when he was a presidential candidate, given the watch by his security team in August 2007 for his 46th birthday, with the president swapping it for his TAG Heuer - causing heated debate on the internet.

President Obama today announced he is delaying the transfer of the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as that is the recognised capital of the Middle Eastern state under US law.
