A leading timepiece designer has appointed a new worldwide head of watches to oversee its Asian market.

Tim Bourne is taking up the role for Sotheby's and will be based in Hong Kong managing Asian watch auctions, as well as those across Geneva, New York and London.

The move has come after the group experienced a rising demand for watch auctions at a global level.

Mr Bourne has 20 years' experience in the auction industry and is expected to put his strong skills to great use.

Kevin Ching, chief executive officer of Sotheby's Asia, said: "Tim will add invaluable experience as we make further investment in our global business."

In a bid to strengthen its team, Sotheby's has made two other major appointments, including a new head of watches and a watch specialist.

Daryn Schnipper, chairman of Sotheby's International watch division, added: "Our international team will continue to bring exceptional watches to our clients with the highest levels of scholarship and service."
