Nautica watches to sponsor 9th New York Triathlon

First published: 20-07-2009

Nautica watches will be on hand to sponsor the 9th Annual Nautica New York City Triathlon this week in the famous US city.

It has so far proved the most popular outing for the event to date, with people snapping up positions in just 22 minutes. Those lucky enough to get a place this year will also be granted an automatic place for the event next year.

The race is not for the faint-hearted, either - the action kicks off on Sunday July 26th at 05:50 local time before the finishing line celebrations come alive at 08:00.

A few new additions will grace the racetrack too, including the Singha Beer Garden in the Sheep's Meadow Cafe, which will be dishing out free beer to each athlete from noon - a time only limited by New York City's unfortunate drinking laws.

One racer in the Nautica watches event is 70-year-old Hank Kaplan, with the Boulder Daily Camera documenting how the athlete - who will be one of only six men out of 5,000 to be his age or older - will not let his years be a barrier to success.
