A musical watch has been designed for auction at the Watch Only 2011 charity event in aid of research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The Reveil Musical watch was created by Breguet and plays unique tune Castle in the Sky, which can be played on demand or at a pre-set time.

It comes in a round-shaped 48 mm case engraved with a musical stave, while the caliber is decorated in 59 jewels.

It's also made from 18-carat white gold, offers a 55 hour power reserve and carries an inscription on the back reading Piece Unique.

The hands are coloured blue, while the dial ornately depicts a child reaching out to a hand coming in from the right-side.

According to Bregue, this image symbolises the "inter-generational solidarity and support for research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy."

Muscular dystrophy is caused by a genetic disorder which progressively weakens and breaks down muscles.

The Duchenne type only affects boys and was named after one its dedicated researchers from the mid-19th century, Dr Duchenne de Boulogne.
