Luxury watches 'make a statement'

People often buy luxury watches not because they want to tell the time, but because they want to make a statement, it has been suggested.

Sales of top quality watches have remained resilient throughout the recession, noted the Guardian, showing there still is demand out there for luxury timepieces.

It noted that there seems to be no upper limit on the prices of watches these days, with the Audemars Piguet Jules Grande Complication on the market for £500,000.

Furthermore, the paper highlighted that watch manufacturers are keen to show just how intricate they can be when it comes to producing timepieces.

It was recently revealed that two Emirates employees had been rewarded with Rotary watches for selling the most items on board flights.

They were also treated to a two-night break in London with dinner and spending money included.
