Lindbergh remembered through Longines watch re-release

Charles Lindbergh, the famous flying explorer who travelled around the Atlantic rim in his famous plane the Spirit of St Louis, is being remembered by Longines, which is recreating its famous watch that it gave to the record-breaker.

Flying in the dream machine which is there for all to see at the famous Smithsonian Museum, Lindbergh wore the Atlantic Voyage Watch to keep track of his journey.

A faithful reproduction, the mechanical chronograph movement measures time to the fifth of a second while the mechanism also has a tachymeter to allow for speeds of up to 500 kph to be measured.

And alongside the alligator strap to add style to function, the timepiece - which can be bought in rose gold or steel - is self-winding and has a flip-top back to protect the transparent back cover, through which the particulars of the offering can be seen.

Charles Lindbergh rose to prominence from his role as a US Air Mail pilot by flying single-handedly from New York's Long Island to Paris, receiving the Medal of Honor for his efforts.
