Japanese designer aims for ''pretentious kitsch'' with studded watches

Tendence, the Swiss fashion watch brand, is to release a new range of crystal-decorated watches as part of an extended collaboration with a Japanese artist and designer, it has been reported.

Kazuto Titanda, who is based in Tokyo with her team, was spotted by Professional Jeweller this week as a major contributor to the company's newest line, with the expert decorating existing timepieces in the same style which she has adopted when selling to Japanese collectors and fellow artists.

The news resource identified that Titanda's style is "lush, sexy, glamorous ... really pretentious kitsch" - a diagnosis the artist herself gave - and each creation is made by hand in order to give each artist a "free reign to their creativity".

Known as the Tendence Crystal Art line, the range will be revealed to the public in full for the first time at BaselWorld this month.

Over 190 media outlets will be covering the BaselWorld meeting this month, including a wide range of publications from the UK such as Wall Street Journal Europe and Retail Jeweller.
