Intricacy 'makes luxury watches popular'

First published: 03-08-2010

People purchase luxury watches not just because of their timekeeping abilities, it has been claimed.

In an article for Forbes India, Rohin Dharmakumar pointed out that expensive watches are often appreciated for their intricacy and attention to detail.

Each luxury watch has hundreds of tiny pieces that work together to ensure the time is told with the utmost accuracy, he pointed out, as well as fulfilling any other feature it may possess.

Some of the most common additions to watches are calendars, moon phases or even the ability to show a second time zone, Mr Dharmakumar said.

"Most complications have been around for decades, even centuries. All that differentiates one watchmaker from another is the quality of execution," he explained.

In recent weeks, Dorian-Vlad Dudi revealed his new wafer-thin watch concept, giving watch buyers something rather unconventional to get their hands on.
