How much does it cost for the perfect outfit

Heading out of the door when you want to look your best before an all-important business meeting or a night out on the town with friends can be a difficult and particularly stressful task.

It is not an unusual sight to see fashion-conscious females stood rifling through their wardrobe with minutes to spare before their taxi arrives, but still non-the-wiser about which outfit to choose.

However, in order to avoid such situations, a considerable number of women simply decide to purchase a brand new ensemble for every occasion - even heading out to the shops to get their hands on some new underwear and jewellery.

According to new research carried out by Cream UK, it costs the average woman £323 to look and feel like a million dollars.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it is the perfect dress that forces ladies to part with the biggest sum of money, coming in at £69.91, while a matching jacket costs around £66.77 and shoes are priced at around £51.40.

Researchers found that more than one in five ladies insist on buying everything new before a special occasion, with a family member's wedding providing the most encouragement to splash the cash.

Some 25 per cent of respondents admitted they believe that the more you spend on clothes, the better you look. What's more, 15 per cent of females said they would immediately dismiss certain shops for being "too cheap".

Unusually, analysts also found that the amount women spend on clothes is determined by whether or not they like the person who is hosting the event.

Commenting on the findings, a spokeswoman for Cream UK said: "Just because a dress is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it will look good.

”Consumers tend to stick with the same brands and retailers so it’s not surprising that women rule out certain shops when they are looking for a special outfit.”
