Hemlines edge higher as summer heats up

After weeks of anticipation and hopes that the drab UK weather would improve, it seems summer is finally upon us - and its up to all would-be fashionistas to change their wardrobes accordingly.

Unfortunately, for the more modest among us, this time of year spells the need for the hemline to edge further up our legs to show off a little bit of thigh in the must-have floaty mini-dress. But this trend certainly is not for the faint-hearted.

Ensuring your tan is topped up and pins are completely smooth is a necessity during the summer months, as you never know when you will have to slip on a mini-skirt or shift dress to cool off in an ever-so-chic manner.

This look is not restricted to one particular style or fit, so you have a lot of freedom to show your own favourite styles and personality through your ensemble.

Browsing through the pages of the latest fashion magazines can give you a great deal of inspiration regarding what to wear this summer, but here is our pick of the best mini-dress looks.

Kelly Brook showed she is a sultry forced to be reckoned with in the style stakes at a red carpet event in London this week. Joined by boyfriend Danny Cipriani, the model wowed in a figure-hugging blue dress that showed off her toned pins.

Similarly, Caroline Flack chose to bare all on a night out recently, but adopted rather a more quirky style. Well-known for her seemingly endless legs, the presenter teamed a sleeveless shirt dress - which was fastened right to the top - with a pair of white strappy sandals and shades.

Hollywood darling Emma Roberts also showed some skin at the launch of a boutique in Los Angeles this week, but opted to team her blue velvet mini-dress with sky-high boots that really accentuated her pins.

Want to know how to make this on-trend look your own? Simply spice up a plain dress with bold and heavy accessories - including a gold watch - or complement a busy, floral fabric with delicate trinkets.
