Gaudy Rolex turns heads, stomachs

One of the world's ugliest watches has been given a bit of web space this week, with the custom leopard print diamond and sapphire Rolex Cosmograph Daytona proving that the high-end watch company doesn't always get it right.

The Luxist detailed how the timepiece, worth around $46,000 (£28,300), is on sale in Miami Beach and has an 18k yellow gold case with 48 diamonds on the end pieces, 36 baguette cognac sapphires and a leopard-printed dial complete with a further eight diamonds between the crown, 15, 30 and 45 markers.

According to the organisation looking into it, the "aesthetic travesty" is even worse because the Daytona in its classic stainless steel casing is generally thought to be Rolex's most beautiful watch.

The Luxist continued: "An astute reader has spotted this monstrosity on the wrist of Vanessa Bryant, wife of LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant, at a White House ceremony. Good lord, there's more than one of them."

Kobe Bryant helped his LA Lakers team smash the Indiana Pacers 118-96 last night (January 27th), with the basketball superstar putting up 29 points himself.
