Garmin creates perfect watch for runners

First published: 06-04-2010

Not one to shy away from the watch market, Garmin has decided to combine its technology and timepieces with the Forerunner 110, which follows in the footsteps of its popular 405 model for joggers and sprinters.

It will enter the market as the slimmest watch to incorporate GPS for speed and distance measuring, as well as giving an optional heart rate belt for keeping on top of health, even using such information for more accurate heart rate-based calorie burning calculations.

Wearable as an everyday watch and using a battery that will tell time for up to three weeks without recharging, users can then upload the data collected to view and share routes with other users to create training schemes.

Additionally, high-sensitivity GPS receivers using Garmin''s HotFix technology will allow the watch''s owners to read information without the signal dropping out, even when in dense forests or between large buildings.

Garmin only has one dedicated retail outlet in the entire world - on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois.
