Exclusive single timepiece made for charity auction

A Swiss watchmaker has designed both a first and final timepiece for the Watch Only Charity Auction in Monaco this September.

Patek Philippe's Ref. 3939 is a single once-off watch created for the auction in aid of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The stainless steel minute repeater comes with a genuine black enamel dial, silver hands and numerals.

Its black strap runs between the silver frame, while the back case offers a charming view of the intricate clockwork.

Segments of the piece are sealed down with silver or red-coloured screws and the clockwork is made up of gold and silver cogs.

In the UK, the muscular disease affects one in every 3,500 newborn boys, the BBC reported.

However, a new 'molecular scalpel' has offered new hope in the treatment of the condition.

Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Dr Marita Pohlschmidt, told the news provider: "We have fought to find a treatment for this devastating condition for the past 50 years.

"Today we can say with real confidence that we're going to win that battle."
