Organisers of the 17th Jewellery and Watch Show in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have revealed that the event proved to be a major success.

The latest watch collections were presented by a range of exhibitors from Brazil, the US, the UK, Hungary, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Bahrain, Lebanon, UAE and many others, at the get-together which covered over 10,000 square metres in exhibition space in the Middle Eastern nation.

Naji El Haddad, the show manager for Reed Exhibitions, said that the event was very successful even though the current economic climate is working against markets across the world, showing that watches continue to be popular during the downturn.

"We were extremely pleased to see that more than 7,700 visitors travelled from across the region, including Qatar, Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to take advantage of so many of the region's and indeed the world's leading jewellery brands."

One watch event that did not get off to a good start was one which sold the timepieces of former car-selling mogul Danny Hecker, with WCCO reporting that the US get-together showcased a number of fakes.
