Designer creates car gauge watches

A designer has spoken about how he turned his for love for classic cars into a new line of watches by taking inspiration from the gauge dials seen on the dashboard.

Bradley Price explained to the New York Times that he was out driving his car when he realised there were so many wonderful gauge designs from the 1960s and 1970s that he thought it would make a good watch detail.

After researching it at home, he discovered there was a niche in the market for the design.

"If you look at the watches out there for car guys, there are two categories. Either they're very expensive chronographs or they're cheesy carbon-fibre watches with a 15-year-old's aesthetic," Mr Price said.

People who have many timepieces could find they have to change them several times a day to wear them all, like collector Alain Chung, who has a selection of 400 timepieces to choose from.
