A Clavius Collection watch sold over estimate for $45,750 (GBP 28,194) at Bonhams & Butterfields' autumn auction earlier this week.

The fine art and antique auction house's first jewellery sale at The Venetian Las Vegas featured the 18k gold Ulysse Nardin automatic hour repeating wristwatch as the marquee lot of the 400 items on offer.

With an estimate of $25,000, the 41-jewel automatic movement timepiece with 22k gold engraved rotor and a lapis lazuli dial with applied gold Arabic numerals sparked competitive bidding.

"The Clavius Collection was undoubtedly one of the finest single owner offerings of wristwatches to be featured at public auction in Las Vegas," said Michal Larsen, jewellery specialist at Bonhams & Butterfields.

Several other Clavius Collection wristwatches also went under the hammer, including an 18k white gold fly-back Glashutte chronograph timepiece and a Vegas-inspired 18k rose gold watch with roulette wheel indication.
