Casio watches are being focused more on lower-priced products in the coming months in order to improve their standing in the Indian subcontinent, it has been reported.

According to the Press Trust of India, low-priced products are now a solid part of Casio's strategy in the area, while it also plans to massively expand its presence on the streets of the second most populated nation.

Kulbhushan Seth, the Casio India company head (sales & marketing) said to the news agency: "From metros we are now shifting focus on Tier II and III cities and will be launching more models in the segment below Rs 3,000 (£37), besides, opening more points of sales in such cities."

He added there are 600 multi-branded stores for Casio watches currently dotted around the Indian subcontinent.

Mr Seth continued: "By March 2010, we will increase it to over 1,200 outlets, mainly in smaller cities."

Last week, Scott Stein of respected technology outfit Cnet highlighted the retro chic of Casio watches, noting how their 80s stylings will always remain popular.
