Breitling watch set for auction

A Breitling watch that made it on board the first flight around the world in a hot air balloon is set to go on sale at a high-profile auction in Birmingham.

Efforts to fly around the world were led by British billionaire Richard Branson, who eventually achieved the landmark in 1999.

The Breitling Emergency was worn on the plane as the watch manufacturer was chosen to sponsor the record attempt.

It is to be accompanied by a signed and mounted piece of the record-breaking balloon, inscribed with the signatures of Branson, Brian Jones and Bertrand Piccard, the three men on board the flight.

The auction house has confirmed that the watch is to be made available for around £5,000 to £7,000.

It will not be the top lot at the sale, however. It has been revealed that a white gold quartz chronograph Chopard Imperiale bracelet watch will also go on sale.
