Brazilian volleyball pair win third Swatch watches title

Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca remained on form in Russia when the pair dominated yet another volleyball competition sponsored by Swatch watches.

The pair added the title to their three previous victories at Grand Slam Moscow, where they took the gold in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Last year's failure to convert a title was not due to their inability, either - Juliana had knee problems which later required surgery to correct.

Receiving $600,000 (£364,000) for their efforts, Juliana and Larissa also saw off their fellow countrywomen Renata Ribeiro and Vanilda Leao, who made the close 21-18, 21-19 victory a South American delight to watch.

Commenting on the experience, Larissa said: "We liked playing in such a historic place like St Petersburg and are just as excited to win in the Russian capital today.

"It is not from Russia with love, but to Russia with much love from Juliana and me."

Last week, in an interview with Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag, chief executive officer of Swatch Nick Hayek said the firm will continue to try and defy the recession after a couple of poor quarters, owing to the current economic climate.
