BaselWorld shows ''sexy and strange'' watches

First published: 31-03-2010

March saw the launch of BaselWorld, the biggest watch fair of its kind held each year in Switzerland, and again it played host to all kinds of weird and wonderful creations.

Wired attended the event, explaining: "The 2010 Basel Watch Fair offered up the usual mix of high-end luxury, technical prowess and the just plain weird.

"Think of it as the high-end European version of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas."

The team argued that the "craziest" concept timepiece they saw was a Hamilton watch known as the Time Player, which has four miniature watch faces and corresponding coloured labels in a nine-by-nine grid, with the added ability to move them all around like an old pocket puzzle.

Other interesting offerings were shown by Oakley, Chanel, Citizen and Perrelet.

This year, BaselWorld welcomed 93,900 visitors from 100 countries.
