American football star to promote Citizen watches

Eli Manning has been named as the latest personality to act as a spokesperson for Citizen watches.

The American footballer plays as a quarterback for the New York Giants and is now set to promote the Limited Edition Citizen Eco-Drive Perpetual Chrono A-T watch, with only 1,000 of the timepieces being created by the company, Women's Wear Daily reported.

As the team's coach Tom Coughlin is well-known for liking his players to arrive on time, Manning said the watch will come to great use.

"We have to be five minutes early to every meeting, so at least I know I'll never be late," he explained.

Another beneficiary of the sportsman's collaboration with the watch manufacturer is infant charity the New York Chapter of the March of Dimes, which will receive a $30,000 (£18,702) donation from Citizen.

Last month, racing car driver David Coulthard released his own timepiece in collaboration with TW Steel.
