    Product Description

Since 1891, BALL Watch Company has been producing mechanical timepieces, made to comply with the most stringent criteria for precision, quality and reliability. With a past strongly associated with the history of the American railroads, BALL watches are made to support adverse conditions and to be readable at all times, day and night. The story of BALL is inseparable from that of the railroad pioneers. On April 19th, 1891, after a catastrophic head-on collision between two trains in Kipton (Ohio, US), the main American railroad companies entrusted the renowned watchmaker Webster Clay Ball with the responsibility of establishing strict chronometric precision standards for all the watches used by railroad employees. Mr. Ball spent a good part of his life helping to design a timepiece that fulfilled the requirements of an accurate watch, one that would withstand the rigors of the rough handling and dirt that was inherent in the railroad industry. The implementation of standard time combined with Webb C. Ball’s watchmaking revolution led to safer train travel across a growing web of steel. The road to independence is not marked by comfort, but rather unstoppable courage. BALL Watch Company established its first spinoff company, Patrick’s labs. Acting as a Research and Development center, this division focuses on its domain of expertise by gathering a wide range of knowledge as well as extensively researching new horological technologies. Patrick’s Labs enables BALL Watch to be at the forefront of research and innovation by developing technically groundbreaking horological products and solutions. With the introduction of BALL Watch’s first in-house movement, the RRM7309-C, the company is taking a bold step in its watchmaking future. For years, BALL timepieces have been equipped with intelligent innovation. And now, the Trainmaster Manufacture 80 hours is fitted with a manufacture caliber. At the heart of this manufacture caliber is precision, efficiency and reliability. As a COSC certified movement, the timepiece has undergone rigorous testing by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Its 80-hour power reserve goes beyond ordinary autonomy, while beating to a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour or 4Hz. The movement itself shows BALL Watch’s passion behind the creation of its first in-house caliber, employing ribbing, perlage and spiral patterns. Its polished finish and the RR logo on the rotor can be seen through the sapphire crystal case back. Men of the railroad required robust tools built with practicality and durability in mind. Knowing this, Webb C. Ball designed watches that delivered instant and clear time reading. BALL’s legacy of readability endures, the Trainmaster Manufacture 80 hours is equipped with H₃ micro gas tubes for quick and clear reading in darkness. The hands and indexes are comprised of these self-powered gas tubes, which do not require charging from an external source and are up to a hundred times more effective than other light sources commonly used in watchmaking. Easy readability is paramount in dark environments, and the Trainmaster Manufacture 80-Hours delivers every time, everywhere. The timepiece’s understated and extremely elegant dial is kept free of unnecessary detail that could reduce its readability. A hint of red has been added to the 12 o’clock marker and the second hand, while the wordings “Chronometer” and “80POWERHRS” have been inscribed on the dial. This 40mm piece is available with a black, blue or silver dial, on a stainless steel bracelet. The contrast between the brushed finish of the external links and the polished internal links adds a touch of chic to the bracelet. Today, more than ever, BALL Watch is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the exploration of modern time and the evolution of watchmaking history.

    About Ball

    Ball logo

The advent of the American railroad system can in many ways be attributed to the development of portable and reliable timepieces. For the first time it became important to be able to accurately and precisely keep time and modern watches were developed to keep things on track. At the forefront of this movement were Ball watches, created by railroad chief inspector Webster C. Ball. Ball is accredited with introducing and maintaining the first standardised time system on the railroads, establishing uniformity and accuracy for disaster prevention. The Ball watch has endured into the 21st century, adopting fashions that appeal to the modern consumer but each with the underlying principles of industrial function still in place. Ball watches today are inspired by freedom, travel and facing adversity head-on, for those who dare to dream and strive to live well.
