A HISTORY OF TISSOT WATCHES

Founded almost 160 years ago, Tissot's Swiss heritage and passion for innovation has seen them make ground-breaking achievements in the watch industry.

1853

Tissot is founded by father and son duo Charles-Félicien Tissot and Charles-Émile Tissot in Le Locle, in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountains.

1907

A factory is built on Chemin De Tourelles in Le Locle, where the company head office is currently located. The arrival of electrical motors allows for mass production of Tissot watches.

1917

Tissot develops its own movements and becomes a manufacturing company, allowing it to sell high-quality watches at an affordable price.

1930s

Tissot and Omega merge to form the SSIH, the first ever Switch watchmaking association. Watches from this era are now highly sought after by collectors.

1976

Tissot partners with Formula 1, collaborating with teams such as Renault, Lotus, and Ensign and much-admired racers like Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzoni, and Mario Andrettis.

1983

Tissot merges with SMH, which is later renamed The Swatch Group.

2014

Tissot produces the T-Touch Expert Solar - the world's first watch to be powered by solar energy.

WHY CHOOSE TISSOT?

Tissot has always prioritised technical innovation, creating many world-first watch designs with functions that have gone down in history. Staying ahead of the trends has paid off - the brand sells more than four million watches worldwide every year.

Living by their tag line "Innovators by Tradition", quality is at the heart of Tissot's watchmaking process. Each individual watch depicts the + design, as seen on the Swiss flag, honouring the brand's homeland and symbolising Swiss quality. With a talent for producing timepieces that have all the qualities of a high-end watch without the high-end price, Tissot watches are the perfect choice for those who like affordable luxury.
