Citizen seems to go somewhere towards solving the issue of style versus substance, or form versus function, by combining these together in this stunning looking perpetual calendar Eco Drive watch. I tried taking photographs but they dont really do justice to the textured white face with roman numerals and sub dial features which look black or dark grey/brownish, depending on what angle the light falls on it. The small delicate sub dial hands and the second hand look completely black and stand out nicely without being distracting while the main hour and minute hands are white with a reflective aluminium outline. The watch is a nice comfortable size and with the strap weighs only 75g, which means you wont notice the weight on your wrist as you go about your daily life. The date window located at the 4pm position makes it easy to read on the go, and it is very clear and easy to read after all what would be the point of a perpetual calendar watch if the date wasnt clear?! By the way a perpetual calendar means you dont have to adjust the date at the end of the short months, it even takes into account leap years. This is good till the year 2100 after which it will not work, so if you are still alive you ll have to buy another one!
Perhaps the only minus point in my opinion is that although the protective crystal has reduced reflection properties, the watch face itself is a little reflective, and at some angles or lighting conditions it can look a little pale or washed out- fortunately one of the best angles to appreciate this beauty is when you are looking straight at it, and in any case the time is easy to read on this watch when its on your wrist.
On to the technical bits, its easy to set this watch up if you can follow the clear and step by step instructions, and operating the watch is intuitive, the main thing to remember is that pulling the crown out one click allows you to select the different modes, such as calendar, alarm, and local time, whilst pulling out the crown two clicks in any mode allows you to make alterations in that mode, and you may then have to press one of the buttons to select different things to change, such as the day and date and month for example. You just have to be patient when setting the time or alarm time because the hands go round on their own, you just cant whizz them round by spinning the crown faster. As well as the time mode in which the second hand indicates, well, the seconds, you can also use this watch in calendar mode, in which the second hand is still and just points at the month, while the minute and hour hands still keep the time as normal. Another bonus is that its got a very quiet tick, which in my view means quality.
The watch can run for up to 6 months on a full charge, and will let you know if it is running out, by moving the second hand in two second bursts. It also has a power saving feature where if it does not see light for more than a few hours, the second hand stops moving, but the main hands still keep the time. When exposed to light, the second hand will quickly move to the correct time.
The strap has got a quick release clasp which means the best of both worlds between a simple leather strap and a metal bracelet The strap is easily adjustable by selecting which hole you want, and then after that you just push the clasp together to engage, or press the two buttons inwards to release it to remove the watch without having to undo the strap. Actually this was the only feature of the watch I found difficult to work out, I had to look it up on You Tube! look up deployment clasp on watch strap.
So to summarize a great looking watch with nice features, the only thing I would have liked to make it even better is hands outlined in black, or just completely black, but then they would not be luminous. At this price point you are not going to get perfection in any watch, but this one certainly gets close to it.

Wanted a watch that just showed the day, date, calendar etc. Have other watches that are chronograph. Does everything I want. Very pleased with the quality of the watch and I dont need to change the battery. Unusual design of the strap added to its quality.

I really like the watch i have purchased! It looks great, feels lightweight, and is full of features I was looking for: alarm to set reminders, calendar which will last you for another 100 years once set up properly thanks to the perpetual calendar and an Eco Drive engine which makes this watch a non-stop runner. I really love this watch!

Im one of those people who has problems getting a watch to actually work on me and so a friend suggested Eco Drive. What a fantastic timepiece it has turned out to be. It is incredibly accurate and is striking to look at. I love the strap which at first glance is a traditional leather strap but is in fact fastened by a rather natty clasp. This means no more leather strap wear after repeated fastening a real plus point. I also love the fact it has a useful alarm and exceptional movement, making adjustment incredibly easy. There is nothing I dont like about this watch and it is exceptional value for money.

What can I say, item is brilliant. Although its actual weight is only 75 grams, it looks solid, chunky and heavy but at the same time it does not take over your whole wrist. It is immediately noticeable, and looks very expensive. Great for wearing with a jeans and t-shirt so would be a great gift for any young man who wants to look cool. At the same time would look brilliant with a suit as a dress watch. One of the main reasons why I chose citizen was the fact that it is solar powered, no more changing batteries! The black leather strap is a bit stiff but is not uncomfortable sitting on the wrist. With time the leather will soften and as it is of such good quality it will not fall to pieces. The stainless steel is highly polished and with the white face, I was a bit apprehensive that the dials and numbers could not be seen properly. The photos do not do it justice, I tried taking photos but the stainless steel casing rim throws a glare on the watch face making the dials and numbers seem lighter, when in fact they are very sharp and easy to distinguish. The clock functions seem a bit over the top and mind boggling but having said that my nineteen year old son had everything under control in a matter of minutes. My only worry is the clasp, it is fiddly and needs a bit of getting used to, to strap it on. Watch comes in a beautiful cylindrical heavy duty presentation box. This presentation box comes in another citizen box making the watch very safe.
This is a Christmas present for my husband and he is going to love it. Lets just hope my son does not pinch it first!

I was pleasantly surprised I received watch in 2 days! Cant rate watch as it is to be birthday gift for a man that has a substantial collection of watches for average price to luxury watches.

This is a beautiful watch with a stylish yet classic face. It is both waterproof showering, etc. and swim-proof submersible. The watch was very good value and came in a very nice box with clear instructions for use.

My husband had been wanting a citizen Eco watch for many years and it it was our 10th wedding anniversary I decided to treat him. Knowing nothing about watches and knowing that James repairs watches for a living I was very particular in my choice and researched many websites, scrolling through a variety of watches, each time my eye was drawn to this particular watch! It was surely meant to be :-
Following my instinct I ordered this particular watch and couldnt have picked better I I tried it gets an 100% approval from my husband who knows his watches!

When choosing this watch I was conscious James has tiny wrist for a male so needed to have a leather strap which could have additional holes added. However the strap can also be altered by the metal clasp fattening also which was an added bonus. I also wanted a watch that offered lots of functions but that wasnt bulky, this watch was just perfect as within the dial it not only dips plays the time but also displays a calendar, local and general time along with the much used alarm!
I extremely pleased with my purchase and it such an elegant and sophiscated watch for a very reasonable price. The only possible downfall is sometimes the glow in dark hands vary in illumination but overall this is definitely a fantastic buy.
