The watch is perhaps a little larger than expected but that means it is very clear and easy to read and adjust Range of functions are impressive and following the instructions to set up straightforward. Bracelet was too long for me and I am a bit bigger than average. No instructions for altering so took it to my local jewellers where it was much admired and corrected quickly at reasonable cost.Four links were removed!

As a 74yr old OAP (with eyesight to match!) my requirements for a new watch were:-

a) It had to be relatively inexpensive due to my only income being my pension.

b) It had to have a very clear, unambiguous display that I could read even without my glasses on.

c) It had to have a Day feature always on display - (no having to press any buttons) - this being more important to me than the actual date.

d) It had to be waterproof as I can't be bothered taking it off to have a wash or do the washing-up and I like to keep my watch on when swimming.

e) It had to have a secure metal strap - not leather, plastic or rubber.

f) Ideally it should also be wireless controlled as my existing watch was and I also have some wireless controlled clocks in the house as a result of which I have ended up being somewhat fanatical about truly accurate timekeeping!

g) It had to be reasonably stylish and comfortable to wear. I detest those big, chunky monstrosities!

h) Additional functions would be acceptable but would probably never be used.

Some requirements! I found dozens of watches which had some of the above but not all until I found the Casio Wave Ceptor Chonograph WV-59DU-1AVEF, which fulfilled all the above and more!

For me the most outstanding feature of this watch is the clarity of it's display. It is rectangular in shape instead of the more common circular shape and is divided into three sections. The upper section shows the Day, Month and Year in a small but clear font. The middle section shows the Hours, Minutes and Seconds in a larger font and the lower section shows the Day (and the alarm and hourly signal indicators if you have them set.)

Although not obvious until you look for it the glass face has a very slight curvature to it which the handbook says is to give the watch added strength. What it doesn't tell you is that this also allows you to view the face at a surprisingly sharp angle unlike most digital watches where you have to look vertical downwards onto it.

The night light is very good. Press the Light button and the whole face is lit up with an extremely luminescent blue background which remains on for five seconds before turning off making it very easy to read in the dark.

One point I considered a bonus is that when you set the Day/Month/Year you can choose between the American or European formats. That is you can set it to Day/Month/Year instead of the horrible American format of Month/Day/Year which can be so confusing to us Brits!

The metal bracelet is a beautiful piece of engineering with a really secure clasp. Most of these security clasps consist of a 'fold down' clip which comes down over the clasp. Unfortunately it is all too easy for this clip to get caught in one's shirt cuff or catch on the edge of something and you're left with your watch dangling from your wrist or even falling off - I speak from experience! The clasp on this watch has a spring loaded button on either side. You press in both buttons then lift the clasp up. A very secure method which has so far proved faultless.

The wireless facilities are mind-boggling. On the watch face it says "World Time" and that sums it up completely. With my age and health condition I doubt I shall be going abroad again but it's nice to know that if I do I shall always have the accurate time with me!

The ususal Chronographic features are available but as I never use these I can't really comment on them.

Finally, this watch is surprisingly light and very comfortable to wear.

Nothing is absolutely perfect of course and there are a couple of bad points. However, these are common to nearly all watches nowadays so I do not hold them against Casio. Knowing of them in advance would NOT have stopped me from buying this watch.

1. The manual. This is printed in dozens of different languages and because of that the print is minuscule. Because of my poor eyesight I had to read it with the aid of a magnifying glass. At least the Japanese to English translation is clear and unambiguous.

2. The strap. As said above it's a lovely strap. It's also massive and would probably fit a Gorilla!

Regrettably there are no instructions on how to adjust it. For me this was not a problem as I am mechanically minded and soon fathomed out how to do it. (I had to remove ALL of the adjustable links and move the clasp up on the one remaining hole and it's now a perfect fit.) You could, of course pop in to your local Jeweller who would do the job for you for a small fee.

3. The alarm signal and the hourly signal. These are both very quiet. The hourly signal would not be heard above normal room noise, radio or TV for instance. The alarm sounds for ten seconds or until you press any button. I doubt it would wake me up even if I took the watch off and put it on the bedside table next to my ear!

One thing I have not been able to ascertain so far is whether the glass is Sapphire (i.e., scratch resistant). I would not really expect it in a watch of this price. So until I find out for sure prudence dictates that I remove the watch when working on the car or anything similar.

I hope this review helps you to make up your mind. There is an expression, "....You get what you pay for." With this watch I say it should be changed to, "....You get more than you pay for!"

Retro styled digital atomic watch. Digits are big and clear and the domed crystal lets you see the lcd screen at a low angle. Alarm is nice and loud and being able to change the dd/mm format is a nice touch.

The watch is a decent size and very light. The steel bracelet and clasp look good though feels pretty flimsy, but can't really complain at this price. Easy to adjust the links to size the bracelet.

Time synch is good. And has synched regularly at the same time in all weathers.

Very pleased with this purchase.
