Seiko 5 "Skeleton Dial" Sports Watches

The Seiko 5 Sports model range is the perfect amalgamation of everything Seiko is good at. It’s tried and tested - as it’s the follow up to the hugely successful SKX007. It has that solid, reliable movement within, brilliant build quality, striking looks, and a certain character to it which screams excellence. All of this, for a very affordable price.

They are usually pretty standard in appearance - black, blue, green dial, and all very similar. However, the SRPJ45K1 and SRPJ47K1 have turned all of that on its head - the very first Seiko 5 Sports watches to feature a skeletonised dial.

Seiko 5 "Skeleton Dial" Sports SRPJ45K1

First up, the turquoise version, which has taken cues from the popular vintage ‘Time Sonar’ Seiko from the 70’s.

The translucent turquoise dial completely transforms this dependable dive watch into something more - it’s now much more detailed, interesting and compelling. Previously, it was purely a tool watch - legible, and did a job. But it’s got more of a flourish now.

The turquoise also follows through to the first 20 minutes on the bezel insert too. It’s not a colour you see too often on watches, which is why it’s so striking and eye-catching.

Next, the brown or burnt orange version. Again, a colour you don’t see too often, which works in its favour. It certainly continues with the vintage theme, with a beautiful bronze hue to it that looks great in the light.

Underneath the dial, you can see the two dials for the day and date - and in true Seiko fashion, it has two languages. In this instance, we have English and French - but interestingly this can also be Spanish, Arabic, and Kanji (which are Japanese characters originating from Chinese).

Seiko VS Rolex

Seiko is one of the most respected watch makers in the world. Little wonder, as they create so many, and their movements power such a huge amount of other brands too. But can they compete with another juggernaut in the watch world, Rolex? Are Seiko watches as good as Rolex? Of course, it’s quite difficult to compare a watch costing less than £300 to watches costing £7,000 and above. But, Seiko does certainly pack a serious punch. They create so much themselves, and have such a wide range of models available throughout the world. In fact, watches made by Seiko’s prestige brand Grand Seiko are regarded to be just as exquisite as Rolex’s, maybe even more so.

Seiko VS Casio

How about Casio? They are also a juggernaut in the watch world, but which is best, Seiko or Casio? They are more in the same price bracket as the standard Seiko. But, Casio doesn't currently make any mechanical watches - so if you’re a watch aficionado then that would make Seiko a much better brand.
