On Sunday 5th September last year, I ran the Autumn Wolf Run. If you’re not sure what a wolf run is, it’s a 10k off-road run featuring a series of man-made and natural obstacles located throughout the course. It’s called wolf as it stands for woods, obstacles, lakes and fields.

So as I arrived at the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Royal Leamington Spa, I knew a little bit about what I was letting myself in for.

Polar Grit X Outdoor Multisport Smartwatch

Thankfully, I was well prepared. I wore this very watch on my wrist - the Polar Grit X.

You can see the results, plenty of mud remains on it but it’s held up very well indeed. How did it perform? Well, thanks to its rugged steel case, it felt substantial and robust on the wrist.

Weighing only 64 grams, it’s very lightweight and easy to wear - I barely felt it on.

I love the grippy silicon strap - it’s supple, comfortable and hard wearing.

Additionally, it packs all the usual fitness watch features: gps, compass, altimeter, class leading heart rate sensor, and so many more metrics and recovery insights I couldn’t possibly go through them all.

Top Features

The Polar Flow app has a tremendous amount of data, perfect for serious athletes or for those of us who just want as much data as possible when we do exercise. You can track over 130 types of sports, it can offer route guidance, responsive recovery insights and tailored workout recommendations.

It’s a smartwatch at the end of the day, so you get all your notifications through with a strong vibration and responsive touch screen.

The battery life was much more impressive than my Apple Watch, providing a few days’ worth of power with normal usage.

Overall Thoughts

I was more than satisfied by the performance of this excellent companion, and I would be extremely happy to continue using it for all my sports activities. I could end the Wolf Run knowing that I would be able to look back at my performance and see how it all was (after the aches and pains had disappeared of course).
