Introduction to British Brands

There has been a real resurgence for British watch making in recent years, mainly thanks to the excellent work of the British Watch and Clock Makers alliance. Britain has a tremendous horological heritage, so it makes sense that a lot of highly-regarded brands are from here.

Roger W Smith watches are known for displaying some of the best craftsmanship in the world, who are supported by other great brands such as Bremont, Christopher Ward, Farer etc. There are also other brands who have an even longer history, such as those who create the watches for the British Army, CWC or Cabot Watch Company, who have been making watches for over 50 years. Fears are one of Britain's oldest watch companies, having first been established in 1846 in Bristol.

With the exception of CWC, watches from most of the aforementioned British watch brands will cost you thousands, if not tens of thousands of pounds. So what about affordable British watch brands? Well, let’s check out 4 top affordable watch brands in the UK!

Accurist 7336 Retro

First up is Accurist, which was founded in 1946. They have a rich heritage, with their watches being worn by the beatles, twiggy, and the royal family. They are a very well-known brand, almost a household name thanks to the fact that they exist in so many high-street stores. This is the 7336 Retro, which definitely takes cues from their past. I love the vintage vibes from the colour scheme, case shape and textured strap. Their watches are affordable, tending to cost less than £200.

Sekonda SEKSY 2867

Next up we have Sekonda, who have been creating watches since 1966. Much like Accurist, they are blessed with huge popularity due to the exposure from high-street stores. In order to expand their reach, they launched the SEKSY line in 2004, focused towards young and fashionable women. This 2867 certainly highlights that vision, with it being svelte and elegant, with a wonderful mixture of silver, gold and jewels. The majority of their watches are priced at under £100.

Henry London Hampstead

Third is Henry London. Established in 2015, they are a relatively young watch brand. However, that youth is not reflected in their beautiful vintage styled watches. This Hampstead is a great example of what they are capable of. This is the ladies version, with a small diameter of 30mm, but the same watch is available in a variety of colours and sizes, all with the same gorgeous vintage aesthetic. They also have some splendid automatic mechanical options, and all their watches are under £200.

Depth Charge Automatic Divers

Finally, one of my favourite brands in recent years. Depth Charge. Driven by years of obsession with dive watches by the product development team at Watchshop, they are some of the best value dive watches I have ever seen. As they have been created by Watchshop, it is therefore a British brand. This one is a cool pepsi version, but they come in a wide variety of themes and colours. They all have the same incredible spec line up: beautiful glossy dial, ceramic bezel insert, sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, and a Seiko NH35 Automatic Movement. All for under £200.
