Men are accessorising again

Men are spending money on accessories again as they shake off the economic doom and gloom

Men are accessorising again and it seems that designer watches by the likes of Ted Baker and Fossil are getting increasingly popular.

Despite the ongoing economic turmoil that is afflicting the UK - and the drastic government austerity measures put in place to try and tackle it - Brits are still willing to treat themselves.

According to David Witman, general merchandise manager at Nordstrom's men's division, male shoppers have returned to the market after reining in their spending at the start of the recession and accessories are in resurgence.

In fact, he claimed demand for cuff links, watchers and belts are likely to reach a 20-year high during the first three months of 2012.

Some brands have been performing particularly well in recent months. Michael Kors watches, for example, recently released its sales figures. It saw a major increase in demand for other items as well as timepieces, including handbags and jewellery.

Chief executive officer of the company John Idol said: "The luxury segment continues to grow globally and our positioning ... will enable us to continue our global expansion."

Rotary has also seen uptake of its stylish timepieces increase and the growing popularity of chic watches has resulted in it launching new ranges on the international market - including a series of bracelets endorsed by Bollywood stars.

Watches are popular because they add a certain je ne sais quoi to an outfit and can be used to accessorise any number of chic ensembles.

A good watch will make almost any shirt-trouser combo look more professional and confident, but it is not just watches that are selling like hotcakes. Men's bracelets are also coming to the fore - either in leather or thin metal, according to Tim Bess, fashion analyst for the Doneger Group.
